Drought

grass snaps underfoot
as a breathless Texas night
sighs and waits for rain

Judith, isn't it somehow ironic that some parts of the country are waiting for rain, whereas other parts of our country are presently being devastated by a hurricane! It isn't fair!

So true, Mary...it's crazy! I pray it gets better for all involved. Thanks for visiting!

we have friends in San Antonio who say it is very dry, and yet here, cottages are literally floating away from too much water, the earth is sighing either way I think

Yes, Christine, I too live near San Antonio and yet I have friends and family who are in Irene's path. We'll all breathe a sigh of relief when we see some normal weather. Thanks for commenting!

Hi Judith :) visiting you back, thank you very much for visiting my blog.

My husband and I sympathize with the bad drought in Texas, here in the Philippines we've been experiencing storms on the contrary

Judith C Evans said...

Thanks for visiting, Joy! Stay safe in those storms.

Fine. I can see it. I can feel the night.

I have relatives in Texas who experience what your poem so well expresses. Wish there was a way to send some of the extra rain along the east coast to them!

Absolutely beautiful. Again you have captured a visual picture with the perfect words. I love it. And, am still praying for rain.

droughts do have a way of leaving the area breathless, I like this Haiku a lot it has a great feel to it and wonderful imagery

Yes, liked this very much. I have been to Texas and thought it very hot and dry. Wonderful work.

Judith - I am with you, praying for rain. When I walk in our yard - the sound is crinkly crunchy ... I am just trying to save a few precious daylilies, a couple of roses, and 150+ yr oak trees with the limited watering we are allowed. :-( However, it is nice to see trucks hauling in bales of hay for the cattle and horses to our area ... don't know where it's coming from, but I am sure appreciated. Nice Haiku ...

A great haiku.
Here in the UK we wouldn't mind a little sunshine - Summer seems to be avoiding us!

Brilliant haiku. Succintly put down the misery of a drought using the image of dry grass. And I agree, it is a bit crazy that one part of the world is as dry as sand and another part is flooded. And we have to do more than just 'sigh' and wait for the rain / relief to come.
Well penned.

After much "sighing" and praying, we enjoyed a rainy weekend here. Yay! Thanks for reading and commenting, friends!
